Central Darling Shire is the largest Shire in NSW and yet has the smallest population. It covers an area about the size of the main island of Tasmania and yet has a population of less than 2,000 people. The Shire is extremely diverse with four main communities (Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs) and Council are committed to meeting the needs of these communities and their long-term future.

Council Darling Shire Council is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified Project Engineer to join the organisation. This is a professional Civil Engineering position and you will be assisting the Director Shire Services in the planning, design and execution of capital works projects and the delivery of infrastructure services to the Shire. This includes construction, maintenance and repairs of the Shire’s road system, water supply, drainage and sewerage systems and aerodromes.

To be successful in the role you should have a Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification acceptable for admission to Membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Applicants without a Degree but with extensive works management experience in local government will also be considered for this position. A solid background in managing works including estimating, programming, budget control and design (including roads, water and sewerage infrastructure) in local government is an essential requirement for this position. Experience in the supervision of staff and work, using computer applications such as Civil Cad, Auto Cad, GIS and asset management systems, knowledge of the NSW Roads and Maritime Services Maintenance Council Contract (RMCC) for State Roads and skills in Microsoft Windows are also essential.
