UPDATE FROM THE LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Local Emergency Management Committee, comprising State agencies, NGOs, and Central Darling Shire Council meet daily to ensure services to COVID affected areas are coordinated and able to meet immediate needs.

COMMUNITY SUPPORTED ACCOMMODATION

This morning, Far West Local Health District announced the establishment of community supported accommodation in Wilcannia. This community supported accommodation, which will consist of a community of motorhomes has the support of Wilcannia residents.

This option provides a respectful and appropriate environment to safely isolate for the Wilcannia community. It can also be established quickly, scaled up or down easily if required and managed in a practical way. The accommodation will be operational on Monday.

Following community consultation, Health Infrastructure developed the plan for the community support accommodation in Wilcannia in consultation with Far West Local Health District (LHD), Central Darling Shire Council, Aboriginal Affairs NSW, the Local Emergency Management Committee, and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Further information on the community supported accommodation has been made available through Far West Local Health District media.

SUPPORTING OUR RECOVERY

The establishment of the community supported accommodation, in tandem with the construction of an Emergency Management Hub, is supporting the recovery from the current outbreak.

The Emergency Management Hub has been established for front line workers and support staff to ensure that on-the-ground services can be maintained, taking into account the need for rotation and fatigue management. This Hub is currently being established in Wilcannia and will be operational by Saturday.

TESTING

Continued testing is vital to containing COVID-19 in all communities throughout Australia. Residents are urged to get tested if they have even the mildest symptoms, or if they suspect they may have been in contact with a COVID-19 case. Testing numbers in the Shire continue to be positive, however Far West Local Health District is encouraging all residents to keep getting tested.

Testing clinics are available in Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs. Residents can also contact their local health service if they want a COVID-19 test.

Stay at home directions are still in place and will continue until 11.59pm Friday 10 September 2021. This means you cannot have visitors to your home, including family and friends, and you can’t visit people on a social basis, including family and friends.
