UPDATE FROM THE LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The Local Emergency Management Committee, comprising State agencies, NGOs, and Central Darling Shire Council meet daily to ensure services to COVID affected areas are coordinated and able to meet immediate needs.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HUB
Wilcannia residents will notice movement at the rugby oval over the next few days, as an emergency management hub is prepared. This site is being developed to give our front line workers immediate access to the physical resources they need to ensure ongoing support for the community is available.
The Emergency Management Hub is expected to be fully operational by Friday this week.
Community members continue to be consulted on appropriate accommodation needs, taking into consideration family and cultural sensitivities. While the LEMC recognises the urgency of accommodation needs within the community, there is also a need to meet the many needs being faced by the community.
TESTING
Testing clinics remain open throughout Central Darling Shire and all residents are being urged to continue testing. All testing is free, and residents throughout the Shire are encouraged to take advantage of the pop up clinics in their town. The only way we can defeat COVID is to continue high testing numbers.
Testing clinics are available in the Central Darling Shire Council area:
- Wilcannia - Wilcannia Oval, 9am to 4pm
- Ivanhoe - Sports Ground, 10am to 4pm
- Menindee - Menindee Oval, entrance through Perry Street, 10am to 4pm
- White Cliffs - White Cliffs Sporting Club, entry through Beth Street 10am to 2pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
VACCINATION
Residents are urged to continue their vaccination program, with the Royal Flying Doctor Services, in partnership with Far West Local Health District and Maari Ma Health Service, continuing a program of vaccination clinics. Full vaccination is vital to containing the COVID-19 virus.
FOOD SECURITY
The generosity of local and regional supermarkets, as well as corporate, government and individual donors, has ensured the supply of food has been maintained to Wilcannia and the district.
The initial supply of hampers delivered to Wilcannia residents has supported them while processes for safe delivery to affected residents were put in place.
All residents are reminded that, if they are not under an isolation direction, they are free to attend their local supermarkets within the current guidelines which includes: only one person can leave home for shopping; masks must be worn at all times – including on your way to the shop, except in your vehicle; and check in is mandatory. Please check with your shopkeeper if they have electronic or paper check in.
The LEMC thanks everyone who has supported our communities, and particularly our Wilcannia community, ensuring our hardworking volunteers and front line workers are able to support those who need assistance in this difficult time.
