Ross River Virus Alert

Council has been advised by the Far West Local Health District that Ross River Virus has been detected in Central Darling Shire.
This detection is the result of a monitoring program.
The Australian Centre for Disease Control says that Ross River virus spreads to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Symptoms of Ross River virus may last for many months. Preventing mosquito bites is the best protection.
People are advised that because the virus has been detected in Central Darling Shire that they should take extra precautions.
Residents are advised to spray themselves with mosquito repellent, cover up exposed skin, and exercise caution when outdoors.
